Music Review: Vanguard Visionaries Siegel-Schwall

This short article testimonials the not too long ago released Siegel-Schwall CD collection of songs from Vanguard Records. 4 of those songs initially appeared on the 1966 lengthy-playing stereo album - the initial public release by Schwiegel Enterprise. The remaining seven songs came from albums developed involving 1968 and 1973. However, there have been no songs from the 1967 Say Siegel-Schwall LP album, the most effective stereo release ever produced by Siegel-Schwall, in my humble opinion.

From the blues group's 1st album, entitled The Siegel-Schwall Band, the following songs appear on this CD compilation: Going To New York, 3:28, written by Jimmy Reed; Boot Hill, 2:57, written by Jimmy Witherspoon; I Have Had All I Can Take, 3:16 written by Mark "Corky" Siegel; and So Glad You happen to be Mine, 6:23, written by Arthur Crudup. Other offerings involve the group's later songs like Quick Rider Four:03, Shake For Me Four:50, Inform Me 3:50, I Never Want You To Be My Girl 6:23, Song Four:22, and Angel Meals Cake 5:34. While those sounds are all one of a kind and melodic, quite a few of the later songs have a tempo that is somewhat as well speedy for my tastes.

The group's originators are Corky Siegel and Jim Schwall. The pair initial met in a college jazz band and sooner or later dropped out to form a one of a kind blues duo. Quite a few bassists and drummers have come and gone considering the fact that the formation of a quartet, but the sounds have stayed mostly the similar cool, clear sounds of the original duo. Jim Schwall has exceptionally talented guitar and vocal capabilities, Although Corky Siegel has honed his piano and harmonica abilities to a soothing, pleasing talent.

This group's unique blues style and clear-as-a-bell tones had been mainly inspired by such blues greats as B.B. King, Lightning Hopkins, Jimmy Reed, and Howling Wolf. Corky claims that their journey into blues was inspired by Milt Boyland. Additionally, he states that Bill Halley's Comets inspired Siegel-Schwall's alterations in volume, and J.S. Bach inspired their simplicity. All these influences, combined with their really hard operate, and distinctive talents have resulted in 1 of the most unique blues sounds in music history.

This Vanguard Visionaries Siegel-Schwall CD is element of the Vanguard Records series entitled Vanguard Visionaries. The series is devoted to some of the most influential musicians and musical groups that have adorned the music scene because the 1950s. The series functions some of the most ground-breaking sounds in blues and other genres, such as jazz, folk, option nation, electronica, indie rock, and new age. The series honors musical artists that have been as soon as element of the Vanguard Records family members.
